Art History classes begin at the Sedona Arts Center in February, 2010

Exploring Modern Masters with Heather Dies

SEDONA, AZ (January 17, 2010) - Heather Dies will be presenting five lectures/discussions on the art of the 20th century at the Sedona Arts Center highlighting a particular modern master each month.

The first session is scheduled for Thursday, Feb 11, with a look at Edouard Manet ~ Secrets & Symbols. Manet is considered the ‘father of modern art.” Each session will begin promptly at 10:00am in the Art Center’s South Studio and last about one hour, at a nominal cost of only $5 per person.

Heather Dies earned a Master of Arts in Art History from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia. Her specialty is 20th Century Art History. Her experience also includes faculty positions at the Indianapolis Art Center, where she was the Director of Development, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Heather and her family moved to Sedona in 2004 where she accepted the Art Manager position at Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art.

This is an exciting series of art experiences that will intrigue, delight and enlighten you about the history of art. You can choose to attend all five sessions or select the ones that are of the most interest to you. For complete details and online registration, visit the Arts Center Website at www.SedonaArtsCenter.com.

The Art Experience courses were added to The Art School curriculum in January 2009 and have been well attended and highly successful. All Art Experiences are short (1/2-day to 2-day), inexpensive opportunities for the public to enter into the art world with a minimal investment of time, materials or tuition.

According to Vince Fazio, Director of the Art School, “The Art Experiences give everyone a chance to work with professional artists and teachers. They appeal to the experienced artists as a way to try out a new medium or style. For those with no art background, it is a way to explore their interest in art in a safe environment without being overwhelmed or intimidated. Each experience is designed as an informative introduction to a particular form or facet of art.”

Some of the Art Experiences are previews to upcoming classes or workshops, but many are stand-alone mini-workshops. They are scheduled regularly throughout the year, usually with a six to eight-week lead time. Check the Sedona Arts Center’s Website Homepage for details about upcoming courses in January and February: Susie Reed’s Developing the Photographer’s Eye on Jan 23; Design for Plein Air and Beyond with Betsey Nelson on Jan 23 & 24; The Heart of Landscape Art with Susan Pitcairn on Feb 6 & 7; plus the Art History series with Heater Dies beginning Feb 11, as described above. New Art Experiences will be posted to the Homepage of the Website as they become available and announced in the Sedona Arts Center’s e-blasts.

In addition to the Art Experiences, The Art School has something for everyone with a complete lineup of ongoing classes and workshops. Ongoing classes meet once a week for several weeks and are taught by one of the outstanding, talented faculty, while workshops are intensive immersions into an art form – typically three to five days in length – and are led by professional artists who are experts in their field.
